Rules & Regulations
British parliamentary Style
  1. There are 4 teams, each consisting of 2 speakers
  2. The teams are known as Opening Government (OG), Opening Opposition (OO), Closing Government (CG) and Closing Opposition (CO)
  3. The 1st speaker of the Opening Government (the Prime Minister) will speak first, followed by the 1st speaker of the Opening Opposition (the Opposition Leader). Next the 2nd speaker of the Opening Government (the Deputy PM) will speak, followed by the 2nd speaker of the Opening Opposition.
Then, the 1st speaker of the Closing Government will speak, followed by the 1st speaker of the Closing Opposition. Finally, the 2nd speaker of the Closing Government will speak (the Government Whip), followed by the 2nd speaker of he Closing Opposition (the Opposition Whip)
  1. The Closing Government speaker has to come up with arguments that have not been brought up by the Opening Government, it is important to note here that the Opening and Closing Governments are on the same SIDE, but they are not of the same TEAM. The Opening Government team and the Closing Government team debate independently of each other, meaning that the 2 teams are not allowed to confer during the 30 minute prep time before the debate as well as during the debate itself. The Closing Government must come up with fresh arguments as a team by itself, and are to bring up anything which contradicts what has been said earlier by the Opening Government (as they are of the same SIDE).
  2. This same concept applies to the Closing Opposition, ie. They must produce fresh arguments of their own, which do not contradict those of the Opening Opposition.
  3. Usually, the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader provide 1 point each, and the 2nd speaker of the OG and OO, as well as the 1st speaker of the CG and CO provide 2 points. This is a guideline and not necessarily a hard and fast rule. The Government and Opposition whip rebuts the arguments from the opposing side and sums up his/her team’s case. The Opposition Whip is not allowed to bring up any new points.
  4. Starting from the Opposition Leader onwards, all speakers are required to provide rebuttals along with their own arguments.
  5. Each speaker speaks for 7 minutes. The timekeeper rings the bell once at the 1st and 6th minute and rings the bell twice at the end of 7 minutes.
  6. Points of Information (POIs), which are questions/interjections during a speaker’s speech, can only be made between the 1st and 6th minute of a speaker’s speech. To present a POI, a debater should stand and announce ‘Point of Information’, ‘POI’, or something to that effect.
  7. All 4 debaters on the side opposing the speaker may give POIs, However, debaters are not allowed to POI speakers of their own side. In other words, speakers from the Opening Government cannot POI speakers from the Closing Government and vice versa, and Opening Opposition speakers cannot POI Closing Opposition speakers, and vice versa.
  8. Allocation of marks:
Matter – the content of the speech, including arguments and reasoning, rebuttals, examples, case studies, facts and other material that attempts to further the case. It includes points of information offered and points of information taken.
50%
Manner – refers to a speaker’s style and structure

However, you may use fissure to completely block a lane outside the base if it's done with the intention of killing a hero or saving an allied one.
  16. Any team has the right to pause game for up to 5 minutes, but only with a proper countdown of at least 3 seconds. A maximum of 2 pauses per team are allowed per game. A team is also obliged to give a countdown of at least 3 seconds before unpausing.

Estimated Duration

Participants
4 players, 1 substitute
Rules & Regulations
  1. Each player will be ranked Player A to D.
  2. Substitutions of players are based on a push up method ie: the substitute will come in as Player D while the rest of the players will move up accordingly.
  3. Player A will play against Player A of the other teams in a round robin format.
  4. The winner is the team with the highest score.
  5. Each player is given 25 minutes each on the clock in which to complete all his moves
  6. Each player who exceeds his/her time will be deducted 10 points for each minute or part of thereof which he has exceeded.
  7. To start the game, turned the tiles to face downwards and count the number of tiles to ensure that it is a full set. Each player then draws one tile and the person drawing the letter closest to ‘A’ plays first.
  8. The first player puts the letters on the board to make a word, either ‘across’ or ‘down’ (as in a crossword), with one letter of the word on a central square. The score is recorded, including any double or triple allowance for tiles placed on premium squares. The first word always scores double, as the centre square has a ‘double word score’.
  9. A bonus of 50 points is awarded to any player who uses all seven tiles in one move.
  10. Tile exchange: Instead of playing words on the board, a player may choose to use his turn to exchange one or more tiles provided there are at least 7 tiles in the bag. The player will score zero for that turn.
  11. Challenges: A player may challenge any word(s) played by his opponent in the previous turn.
    1. Challenge procedure: On taking the decision to challenge, the challenger should call "CHALLENGE" and neutralize the clock at which point the challenge becomes irrevocable. The challenger must state clearly one or several or all of the words formed by the challenged player during the turn just concluded.
    2. The word judges will return a ruling as to whether the words challenged are ACCEPTABLE or NOT ACCEPTABLE. If all the words challenged are deemed acceptable (i.e. included in the specified word authorities) the challenge is unsuccessful. Otherwise the challenge is successful and the challenged player must withdraw his play from the board and return any replenishment tiles to the bag. If any of the replenishment tiles have been mixed with leftover tiles, the successful challenger may draw at random the required number of tiles from the challenged player's entire rack and return them to the bag before his opponent withdraws his play from the board. Both players may view the returned tiles before they are replaced in the bag. Where all words challenged are ACCEPTABLE 5 points for every word challenged are added to the score of the challenged player.
    3. The word judges must rule only as to whether the challenge as a whole is successful or unsuccessful, and in cases where more than one word is challenged must not indicate whether any particular word is acceptable.
    4. The decision of the judges on the success of challenges is final. Players who doubt the accuracy of the judgment may request a recheck, which will be granted at the discretion of the judges.
    5. After the challenge is concluded and scores have been recorded, the challenger's clock is started.
  12. Overdrawing: It may happen that Player A, on replenishing his rack, draws more tiles from the bag than needed. Suppose the number of excess tiles is N, Player B may pick at random N tiles from the tiles, and return them to the bag. Player A may stop the clock until the excess tile(s) are returned to the bag.
  13. Players must not consult any word list, dictionary or any other forms of reference during the game except where specifically permitted by the rules of the tournament.
  14. A game ends and the clocks should be neutralized when
i. One of the players has played all his tiles AND the bag is empty; OR
ii. There have been 6 successive turns of zero scores, i.e. 3 moves from each player which are either challenged off, a tile change, or a pass; OR
iii. The tournament director has declared an end to the round.
  1. Tile penalty: After the game has ended, the player who has finished all his tiles adds to his score TWICE the total tile value of his opponent's remaining tiles. If both players have tiles left on their racks, each player should deduct from his score the total tile value of his residual tiles.
  2. Complete set of tiles: A game result will still be valid even if it is discovered after commencement that the number and distribution of tiles was incorrect. It is the responsibility of the players to ensure that they are playing with a complete set before commencement.
  3. These Rules cannot be expected to cover every eventuality and players are expected to exercise common sense and courtesy in observance of these Rules. All matters in doubt or dispute shall be referred to the Tournament Director whose decision is FINAL.
  4. The reference for acceptability of a word is SOWPODS dictionary.
